Kono District Kono lies in the east of Sierra Leone. It occupies a total space of 5,641 Km2 and comprises of fourteen chiefdoms. The district headquarter is Koidu town. The main ethnic groups are Kono, Mende, Kissi and Temne. Main economic activities include diamond and gold mining, rice growing, coffee and cacao plantations.
