Bonthe District

Bonthe occupies a total space of 3,468 Km2 and comprises of eleven chiefdoms. The main ethnic groups are Mende, Sherbro, Temne and Lokko. The main economic activities include fishing , rice growing and oil palm plantations.

Prior to the war, the potential of the District cannot be over emphasized in the areas of Rutile and associated mineral resources, fishing, rice production, palm oil plantation, tourism, crude oil and produce marketing like cassava, palm kernel and coconut. The district has huge tourism potentials that need to be harnessed.
